Did former PMO, Finance Minister bail out Vijay Mallya?

In a twist to the Vijay Mallya saga, Network18 has accessed letters that embattled tycoon Vijay Mallya wrote to the then Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and his employees that indicate that Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister gave undue favours to Mallya.

In an email, dated June 10, 2010, Mallya told his senior management team that he has asked the group’s Chief Financial Officer, AK Ravi Nedungadi, to organize whatever money he can to help the crippling Kingfisher Airlines until the promised money comes from the Prime Minister’s or Finance Minister’s office.

The mail raises eyebrows as to why the then Prime Minister or Finance Minister’s office were releasing funds to bail out a private airline.

Another document is a letter that Mallya directly wrote to the PM Manmohan Singh in October 2011. In this, Mallya has thanked the PM for meeting him to explain difficulties faced by the Kingfisher Airlines.

Mallya further said that the company had approached a consortium of banks to grant the company additional financial support and he had been asked to approach the then Principal Secretary to PM, TKA Nair, for any issues.

On being approached by Mallya, Nair immediately spoke to concerned people in the ministries involved, reveals the letter.
