Shaw AFB neighborhoods provide housing for base personnel at the facility that house the Air Forces largest combat F-16 wing. Their primary function is to provide air support for Central Command. Housing of various sorts can be found both on base and off base. Most of the units available are offered as rentals.
There are 735 housing units for families within the base. All of them have been renovated recently. Those who are interested in getting one should keep in frequent touch with the housing office since the waiting list for these changes weekly. You are allowed to keep three pets at these if the animals are vaccinated properly and supervised.
Applications can be submitted in advance to the housing office. They must be accompanied by Permanent Change of Station orders. Your current housing office will forward the necessary paperwork. You will have four different housing area to choose from, all of which have been carefully designed to be attractive and functional.
Inside the base is Shaw Heights. The location is one consisting of two or three bedroom houses. Outside the installation will be found Wherry Heights. These are single level homes set into duplexes. Shaw manor has a design of four units each with three bedrooms. Also off base is Palmetto Heights which has four bedroom homes. All these are located in landscaped settings that lend a feeling of garden appeal.
Enlisted personnel have some single housing unit options. The Palmetto heights and Manor sites have houses devoted to officer use. There are dormitories on base for E-1 through E-4 who are unaccompanied and enlisted. These will be found near dining facilities, post offices, and recreational sites such as the fitness centers. Washers and dryers are available here. They are quite popular among those who live here.
It is permitted for single airmen to live off base and get their basic allowance for housing provided they are on the housing office’s waiting list. Before moving off base though, they must first receive permission both from their squadrons and the housing office.
Shaw AFB neighborhoods feature a number of enticing area both inside the compound and in regions that are directly adjacent. Single officers currently have no units available specifically for them. The dorms are an attraction both due to their layouts and their convenient location. The house all include green space and room to garden.
