How To Repair Credit So You Don’t Waste Money

Hiring a professional is an option for credit repair but is not necessary. All the steps that they take can be done by you for less money. Below are the steps on how to repair credit yourself.

First, you need a copy of all three reports. Once a year you can get these reports at no cost. Ordering them from the bureaus will cost you a small fee though.

Place your order through the internet, by mail or phone.

Do not contact the bureaus for your free report.

Offers for free credit reports from places other than FACTA might require you to subscribe to their service for a fee. Your credit score will not be included. You will have to pay for that separately.

All three reports are necessary because businesses may report to one bureau but not any others. They also do not share information. Your information may vary from report to report. If you get all three reports, your credit history will be clear to you.

Make copies of the reports to be used to dispute incorrect information.

Read over your reports and become familiar with them. Mark whatever it is that needs to be repaired.

Review your reports at least once a year because you need to know what your creditors think of you.

Information like your name, address, employment and prior addresses will be contained in the reports.

Misspelling of names is very common. Be sure that the identifying information is actually about you.

Within the reports, you will find a summary page with the types of accounts on your report. The summary includes number of accounts, number of current or past due accounts, the balance, open and closed accounts, public records and inquiries.

You will find more detailed information in the account history area. The creditor name, account number, account type, responsibility, monthly payment amount, date opened, date reported, balance, credit limit, loan amount, high balance, high credit, past due, remarks, payment status and your payment history will all be included in this section.

Any information that is not correct needs to be disputed. This includes: accounts that do not belong to you, payments that were not late but reported as late, past due accounts, charge-offs, collections and maxed out accounts.

Instructions for sending disputes will come with your reports. Send the dispute along with highlighted inaccuracies together.

Your payment history is a major part in your credit rating. To improve your score, make it a goal to have all the accounts showing current of paid.

Pay the open accounts first. Any that has been charged off need to be paid in full. Try to make payment arrangements with the collection agency if they will work with you.

The amount of debt when compared to the amount of credit makes up 30% of the credit score. Maxed out credit cards cost you point, so they need to be brought down below the credit limit.

To rebuild credit, after negative accounts are dealt with, apply for a credit card. If denied, apply for one from a department store. If that still does not work, apply for a secured card. This way you will have a positive item on your credit but do not apply for a lot of cards.

It is important that you do not let good accounts slip to take carry of bad accounts.

If you are not able to resolve the issues on your own, then turning to credit counseling companies may be the answer.

Did you know that you can save money by doing you own credit repair instead of a company? This article will tell you how to repair credit in an instant.
