A cornerstone of contemporary smartphone design, Apple’s choice to scrap the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7 has been the source of endless heated debates. Even one of our own shared his two cents on the matter.
That discussion can go on forever, but there is a silver lining, apparently. If this newly-surfaced video is to be believed, Apple may actually be bundling wireless Earpods (or rather, Airpods) with its upcoming smartphones.
There have been a number of occasions when a wired Apple headset ending in a Lightning connector has been pictured in the wild, and that seems like a reasonable compromise – if you can’t use your own headphones, at least Apple is giving you a set. Or maybe a bundled Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter. But wireless Earpods in the box almost sounds too good to be true.
Now, we can’t be sure of the authenticity of the video, and even if it is legit the bundle may differ by market and model (just two, it seems), and may also be an optional package, so it’s still a bit too early to rejoice. We’ll know more next week – September 7 is the date when the next iPhone becomes official.
