Samsung became the second largest player in the smart wearables space in the first quarter of 2017. The information comes from Strategy Analytics’ data for global sales in Q1.
Samsung captured 12.8% and managed to overtake Fitbit’s 12.1% due to solid performance by the Gear S3 Tizen smartwatch.
The global leader in smart wearables was once again Apple, which enjoys a healthy 53% share thanks to the Apple Watch.
The Gear S3 proves a big win for Samsung. Introduced in September at the IFA congress and released in November it was an immediate hit thanks to Tizen OS, a Super AMOLED circular screen, good battery life, GPS and its two variations – Frontier and Classic.
