OnePlus 6 puts S845 power behind a notched screen, shoots 4K @ 60fps video

OnePlus 6 wants to prove that its greater than the competition with a number of firsts for the company. Its not a revolutionary redesign, but OnePlus MO has always been to offer a flagship experience at a lower price than the competition.

The 6.28 Optic AMOLED display is the largest OnePlus has used yet. It has an 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch so it fits in just about the same footprint as the 5T (OnePlus says it covers 84% of the front, but that doesn’t account for the notch). The resolution is 1,080 x 2,280 px and there’s support for both sRGB and DCI-P3.

The camera department boasts 4K @ 60 fps video recording a rarity even in 2018. And it can shoot 480 fps slow-mo videos at 720p resolution for 3.75s. resulting in a minute of actual footage. The video is recorded through the 16 MP main camera on the back, which has a sensor 19% larger than the one in the 5T.

The OnePlus 6 also gets OIS back – a feature the 5 duo lacked. The secondary camera of the dual cam setup uses a 20 MP sensor. Smart Capture automatically optimizes image quality based on what you are shooting and there’s a new and improved HDR algorithm.

And since no phone is complete without AI, the 16 MP front camera uses an AI to create the Portrait modes bokeh. The front camera also does face unlocking in 0.4s. Or you could keep using the fingerprint reader on the back (it and the camera have a new look to boot).

With the 6, OnePlus embraced the metal and glass design. No sandstone and no metal, instead there are three distinct color options a reflective Mirror Black, a matte Midnight Black and a Silk White (which will be a limited edition). Each gives depth to the Gorilla Glass 5 with decorative layers tucked underneath.

Also, the phone now features basic water resistance, but theres no officially listed IP rating (going by the OnePlus description it should be IP54 equivalent).

Of course the OnePlus 6 is powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset. It comes with either 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM and you can have up to 256 GB of 2-lane UFS 2.1 storage. No, no microSD slot in this generation either (not that anyone expected different).

The battery is one of the few things that remain unchanged it has 3,300 mAh capacity and is charged over the fast Dash Charge (5V at 4A). Surprisingly, theres no wireless charging support despite the glass back.

The latest model sports gigabit LTE thanks to its 4×4 MIMO antennas. There will be two major variants NA/EU (40 bands) and CN/IN (37 bands). Check out the pricing:

The OnePlus 6 will be available in the following countries colored red in the map below. Aside from China, the first units will be up for grabs from May 22 onward, except for the Silk White limited edition, which will be available from June 5.
