History of Candy
We all have certain candies that we think about on a regular basis. Why? Because although they are unhealthy, candies are good and they instantly make us happy. For one, it’s delicious. Secondly, it’s something that people don’t mind going out of their way to buy. And frankly, candies and sweets just keep us from being down! Since we all love candies and nobody can ever truly resist them, let us try to find out how candies came to be…
Well…it all started…
Candies were baroque during the olden days and are nothing like what we are used to seeing now. Also, chocolates have not been around until the mid-1800s. In the middle ages, the first candies only consisted of fruits and nuts that were covered in honey or molasses. And, like our gourmet candies nowadays, they were quite a bit expensive. In comparison, we are very fortunate that candies come in a variety of selections to suit everyone’s taste and are even available for sale in bulk! Always remember this when you eat candies! During that time, people have never heard of “wholesale” candies, much less have seen some!
Candies Evolved
Candies have developed into how we know them today by riding the times. But of course, there are pioneers in changes as well as those that followed suit. Take the M&M’s for example. Named for the two owners of the Mars Company, and made so that they wouldn’t melt in your hands while you were sitting out during a hot summer day. Moreover, these were created for the consumption of the military during the war! (After all…it was truly hot and humid where many of the troops were sent!) In fact, they were only available to the military for a while and used/eaten during WWII.

Candies have been part of our history and some are still available today. Chocolate falls under this category (which wasn’t really sweet when it was first discovered. How it ended up being made into candy when it started as a spicy thick drink is a mystery!), as well as the candy corn. No one would have ever thought… When you do a candy research, try not to be too surprised because you’ll truly learn a lot!
