Google Cardboard app downloads hit 50 million milestone

Google has announced that a total of over 50 million VR apps for its Cardboard platform have been downloaded from the Play Store so far. The announcement was made by the company’s head of VR Clay Bavor at the ongoing I/O 2016 conference.

The figure stood at 25 million back in January this year, meaning the number of Cardboard app downloads has doubled in the past four months. “We think thats pretty good for what is, after all, just a piece of cardboard,” Bavor said.

Although Bavor didn’t reveal the exact number of Cardboard units that have been shipped globally until now, he did say there are “millions and millions” of them. The number was 5 million in January.
