Do you own a Google Home smart speaker? If so, did you know it actually has a Bluetooth chip inside? Yes, really. Except it wasn’t activated up until this point, for reasons that are very unclear.
Anyway, here’s the good news: Bluetooth support is finally rolling out to a Google Home near you. This was announced at Google I/O last month along with a slew of other Home-related updates.
It’s a silent rollout, this, but there’s an easy enough way to check if your particular speaker has been blessed to receive it already. Just go into the Google Home app, and in the Device settings area check for a new section called “Paired Bluetooth devices”. If it’s there, it means you should be able to go into the Bluetooth menu of your phone’s Settings and connect to the Google Home using this technology. Once you do, it behaves just like any other Bluetooth speaker – all media audio will be routed through it.
